An overview of our AgroSolar plant

Thought through for your land.

The basic building block for our elevation is our patented Spinnanker technology, which is based on the principle of tree roots. It ensures very low compaction and area loss, as it does not require a concrete foundation. Accordingly, it is also completely deconstructible. The loss of land is limited to an absolute minimum (only about 5%).

Efficiency is a top priority for us. 

We have primarily chosen bifacial PV modules, because the back and front can be used for power generation. This provides an additional yield of up to 25% more electricity generation on the same area!

Depending on your wishes, these are mounted in 12 or 18 meters width and in 5 – 7 meters height and thus individually adapted to each facility. In addition, agricultural machinery can be used underneath the Agro-PV/Agri-PV system without any problems. The double-sided glazing leads to a homogeneous light transmission and distribution under the modules, which has a positive effect on the development of the plants.

For even more efficiency, we are working on the additional use of the “Mover” or “Tracker”, which was awarded the Austrian Solar Prize, for automatic alignment of the PV modules.

By combining movers and bifacial PV modules, the radiation distribution can be adapted to the individual needs of the plants and homogeneous irradiation can be ensured.

Each farmland is unique.

The substructure for the erection of the solar panels allows adaptation to specific, local conditions. The system gets individually adapted to each arable land and relevant local factors like the soil condition, the working direction of the field, the local slope of the terrain or the load of the wind are taken into account.

Another factor is, of course, the fruit harvest. In principle, Agro-PV is suitable for all crops, but different effects on yields can be expected due to shading. While the cultivation of shade-tolerant crops benefits from shading, crops with high light requirements are less suitable (see diagram).

We love to keep improving ourselves

That is why we are constantly working on improving our technology: We want to make the system even more practical for farms, and are currently working on installing integrated water and energy storage systems so that the electricity produced and the water collected can be stored and used on site. This has the advantage of closing on-farm loops through a decentralized energy and water supply, allowing for more sustainable and profitable farming. We want to be able to fully exploit our potential!

Our Patent

Our Spinnanker technology & our system as a whole are patented

Our concrete-free anchoring device with our self-developed Spinnanker technology, which can be dismantled without leaving any residues as required by DIN SPEC 91434, has been protected via patent since September 2019.

We have also registered our utility model of the entire system for the management of an agricultural area and received certification from the Federal Republic in March 2021 – the patent for this has been applied for and is in process. Our system type will soon be protected holistically.

Our Potential

What is the potential of our photovoltaic system?

Power generation

 

In Germany, the electricity demand is about 600TWh per year. Of this, 9% is currently generated from solar energy and 24% from wind energy. However, due to the Paris Climate Agreement and the planned “Energiewende” in Germany, the share of sustainable and renewable energies must be increased in order to achieve the climate targets: In 9 years (2030), 65% of the energy used should be from renewable sources, and before 2050, the electricity generated and consumed in Germany should be greenhouse gas neutral. These milestones were set in the Renewable Energy Sources Act 2021 (EEG 2021), which came into force in January 2021.

The technologically developable potential of our Agro-PV/Agri-PV system is estimated at 1700 GWp in Germany. In the German energy landscape, the technology has the potential to be an important solution for the energy transition: If 4% of Germany’s arable land was covered with our Agro-Solar system, Germany’s energy demand (600TWh/year) could be covered with energy from Agrophotovoltaic systems.

Together with farmers in Germany and other regions we want to secure and expand access to climate-neutral electricity.

In addition, we have the potential to achieve another positive effect – on the one hand for the environment and against climate change, on the other hand for the future income of the farm: CO2 storage through increased humus content in the soil. Thanks to the positive effect of our plant on humus formation, after 3-5 years of use of the plant and adapted soil cultivation, approx. 10 tons of CO2 can be stored per year and hectare.
